Join Ubele! Communications / Graphic Designer Intern needed.

The Ubele Initiative is looking for a communications design / graphic design intern for approximately 1 day/week. We are working inter-generationally to secure the future of the African and Caribbean community.

This is initially an unpaid opportunity but in exchange for your work we can offer 4 hours per month business coaching with Yvonne Field. We hope to secure funding this year but currently cannot guarantee payment will be possible. Most of this collaboration will be carried out virtually as Yvonne will be visiting South Africa shortly, but will be available to meet potential candidates until then. Location is not important for this role but most of the early stage activity and meetings would happen in London. An intern based in South Africa is also a possibility for someone who wants to work internationally, as the project will also be based there in the near future.

Typical projects would include designing flyers, invitations and other promotional materials, helping us to transition our blog ( to a complete website, contributing generally to the creative evolution of the project and taking the Ubele identity forward. This will all take place while liaising with Yvonne and other members of the Ubele team.

Applicants must be a good communicator and will have a good working knowledge of design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, and some knowledge about web design and blogs would be helpful. An understanding of social change, community work and the issues which challenge the African and Caribbean community would also be to your advantage.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience on a social change project, advice about running your own business, and the chance to help shape a creative vision in it’s early stages.

If you are interested in this opportunity please email with your CV, some examples of your work and a brief covering email about why you are interested in the internship.
